Kenmore Gas Dryer Igniter Glows But No Flame
I ll show you what i did to repair my good old machine myself.
Kenmore gas dryer igniter glows but no flame. The ignitor is an important component of a gas dryer but even if it s brand new the dryer may not heat for several reasons. The drum just turns and the darn gas flame won t start. Gas dryer won t heat after replacing new ignitor. The hot surface igniter is used in modern gas oven burners to open the gas valve and to ignite the gas.
I have a kenmore 80 series gas dryer. Some problems are. If igniter fails the gas will not be ignited and the gas dryer will not heat up. If the igniter has no continuity it needs to be removed and replaced.
I looked in the peep hole when i turned it on for the second load of laundry and the igniter area glowed for a minute but never lit the pilot. 1st load will dry not the second until a bit later when it rests for awhile i did replace the gas valve solenoid and the cycling thermostat but still not working. I also have a maytag gas dryer. If the igniter has continuity this lets you know the problem is elsewhere.
Flame comes on for a short while and goes out. Parts are cheep but knowledge. Remove the igniter and test it for continuity using a multi meter. The flame sensor mounts on the side wall of the burner assembly close to the ignitor.
Ignites the gas in the burner to create a flame. Then periodically the igniter glows for a while but not gas comes out. As the igniter draws electric current it will heat to a high temperature and glow as well as cause the bi metal in the oven safety valve to warp and open the valve releasing the gas to be ignited. The flame will not stay on.
